With all of the changes in the health care system many of you are enrolled in plans that provide for a well woman exam once a year. This exam serves to update you and the doctor on your health status. Recently, many health plans have added a benefit that allows you to choose to have this exam performed by your primary care doctor and Dr. Aguilar provides this service to all women.
The well woman exam should include all aspects of preventative care. It is your yearly physical exam. In the past many women have received parts of this exam from different doctors at different times. Review of medical history and updates on current medical problems Routine physical exam and Pap smear Discussion of healthy lifestyle issues Cholesterol once every 5 years Stool sample for occult blood yearly after age 50 as a colon cancer screen Other tests may be indicated in women with certain medical problems or risk factors.
